How to get help with the garden listener.

What this is

Birdsense is a private garden listener for 22 common UK and Ireland birds. It offers a cautious reading of who is calling and what that call is often for. It is not a talking-bird translator.

The live site is birds.botblog.co.uk. This support page is public. The listen app itself needs the garden password.

How to get help

Write to info@botblog.co.uk.

Please say you are writing about Birdsense, and what happened — for example login, listening on a phone, or a reading that looks wrong.

Using the app

Open birds.botblog.co.uk and enter the garden password to listen and use the log.

  • Listening usually needs the page or app on screen. We do not claim always-on background listening.
  • Listen is the main garden page (password required).
  • Inside the app, About explains what it can know, phone limits, and photo and song credits.
  • The privacy policy is public, like this page.

Listening on a phone

The Listen orb is the only control on that page. Add to Home Screen lives in the browser share menu, not under the button.

  • Hard-refresh, then tap Listen until the orb pulses.
  • Watch the Sound traces. If they stay blank, the microphone is not reaching the app.
  • If Sound moves but no name appears, we are still waiting for one of the 22 garden birds. Off-list birds stay off the list. Many “robin singing” videos are the American robin, which we do not name.
  • Keep the page on screen. Walking outside can drop Wi‑Fi — wait until it says Listening again.
